Privacy Policy

This document is complete and names its owner and contact, but it has not been through a legal review yet.

This Privacy Policy describes what Lexmem ("the App") does with your data. Lexmem is published by Ruslan Alimbetov ("the Operator"), an individual trading under the exordix brand.

Lexmem shows no advertising, contains no analytics and does not track you across other apps or websites. Nothing is sold to anyone. Most of what the App does happens on your iPhone and reaches no server at all.

# Without a subscription, nothing leaves your iPhone

Until you subscribe to Lexmem Plus, the App contacts no server of the Operator. These stay on the device:

saved words and phrases, their translations, transcriptions and examples;
the context you saved with a word: one sentence and its source — the address of the page it came from, or whatever you entered yourself;
your reminder schedule and your "I remember" / "I don't" answers;
your settings: language pair, interface language, reminder window and frequency.

They live in the container shared by the App and its extensions, under iOS data protection, and enter your iPhone backup under Apple's rules.

Translation is performed by Apple's on-device translation; iOS downloads the language packs itself. Pronunciation is spoken by the iOS speech synthesiser. Neither sends your words to the Operator.

# Reminders

Reminders are scheduled on the device and delivered as local notifications. The App registers with no push service and holds no device token, so no reminder passes through a server. A word appears in a notification only if you allowed it; the translation and the context are never shown there.

# What Lexmem Plus sends to the service

Two things reach the service, and both require a confirmed Lexmem Plus subscription:

the breakdown of a saved word — its sense in the sentence you captured, part of speech, transcription and examples;
translation itself, when your iPhone has no on-device language pack for the pair you chose. Apple's on-device translation is tried first, and only what it cannot do falls through to the service.

There is no other path from the App to the service: the capture extensions never contact it, and a word saved by an extension is sent, if at all, by the App itself. Without a subscription neither path is open.

In either case, the App sends over an encrypted connection:

the word or phrase you saved;
at most one sentence of context, if you saved one with it;
the languages you chose;
an identifier for that individual capture;
the token of your account.

It sends no name, email address, Apple ID, phone number, device identifier, contact list, location, or any of your other saved words.

The text is processed on the Operator's behalf by OpenAI. OpenAI is instructed not to retain the request, and is given no account identifier — only an irreversible pseudonymous value derived from it, which cannot be turned back into your account. Storage and computation run on Google Cloud (Cloud Run and Firestore) in the europe-west1 region, in Belgium.

# Your account

The account is anonymous. No account exists until you open the Lexmem Plus screen — at that moment the service creates one and assigns it an identifier of its own. You supply nothing towards it: no email address, no Apple ID, no sign-in, no device identifier.

A key identifying the installation is stored in your iPhone's Keychain. Because iOS keeps Keychain items independently of the apps that created them, this key survives deleting the App: reinstalling Lexmem restores the same account and the subscription attached to it. The key is a random value and describes nothing about you.

# Purchases

Apple bills the subscription. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, the App sends the service the transaction signed by Apple so that the subscription can be verified. The transaction carries a token linking it to your account, and the App Store is never given the account identifier. The Operator never receives your payment details.

# How long data is kept

A breakdown request and its result, on the service — up to 24 hours, then deleted automatically.
The per-day count of breakdowns for your account, used to enforce quotas and reconcile spending — 35 days.
The account record and its subscription state — until you ask for deletion. There is no automatic expiry.
Session tokens — stored only as hashes, until they expire.
Everything in the first section — on your iPhone, until you delete it.

# What Lexmem never collects

No analytics framework, no advertising identifier, no usage or crash telemetry of its own, no location, no contacts, no browsing history, and no identifier that would follow you into another app or website.

Apple provides the Operator with aggregate App Store statistics about downloads and subscriptions. They describe no identifiable person, and the Operator adds no measurement of its own.

# Your rights, and how deletion works

The App has no "delete account" button. Deletion is handled by email, and this policy will not promise a control that does not exist.

If you never subscribed, you have no account and the service holds nothing about you. Deleting the App from your iPhone removes your words, schedule and settings. The Keychain key described above remains until iOS removes it, and it holds no personal data.
If you subscribed, write to appteam@exordix.com with the subject "Delete my data". Because the account carries no email address or name to match you by, the request must include the App Store transaction identifier of your subscription, which Apple shows in your purchase history and in its receipt emails. The account record, its subscription state and any usage counters are deleted within 30 days. Apple's own record of the purchase belongs to Apple and is not the Operator's to remove.

You may also request access to or correction of the data described here, withdraw consent by cancelling the subscription and requesting deletion, and lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

# Children

Lexmem is not directed at children. The Lexmem Plus breakdown transmits text to OpenAI, whose terms require users to be at least 13 years old, so Lexmem Plus must not be used by or for a child under 13.

# Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated. The current version is always at this address, with its effective date shown above, and every earlier revision stays reachable from the list at the foot of this page, so a change can never quietly rewrite what you agreed to.
